The Ministry of Electricity confirmed the government’s intention to diversify the sources of supplied gas, while indicating the continued flow of Iranian gas under the bilateral agreement.

“PM Muhammed S. Al-Sudani reached a strategic and exceptional solution with an agreement to swap black oil for Iranian gas. The agreement spared the electrical system the effects it was experiencing with every summer,” said the ministry’s spokesman, Ahmed Musa, to the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

He pointed out, "This agreement worked to fill a certain part of the stations' need for gas, and therefore the supplied gas is still flowing and its payments are stable, as our stations still need this gas."

"The Ministry is looking forward to exploiting the national gas fields and filling the existing shortfall to gradually end the need for supplied gas," he included, adding “The Ministry of Electricity is moving to install stations that operate on associated gas as quick solutions, and there is a government tendency for the Ministries of Electricity and Oil to search for other sources of supplying gas and diversifying it from the countries of Turkmenistan and Qatar as the agreement with Tehran continues.”
