The ministers of oil and electricity confirm the implementation of PM directives to invest in gas fields

    The Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdel-Ghani, and the Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, worked on Wednesday, hard on the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a al-Sudani to invest in gas fields and maintain the momentum of their work.

    The Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdel-Ghani, said during a joint press conference with the Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, during their visit to the Halfaya field in Maysan, and was followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "there is a close and focused follow-up by the Prime Minister, of the need to invest in gas fields and meet the needs of power stations."

    Abdul-Ghani added, "Our visit to the Halfaya field is to see the developmental stages of extraction and gas fields."
    He continued, "Our meetings with the electricity company are continuing, and we agreed during a joint meeting to ensure the release of gas that meets the needs of the Maysan gas and investment station."

    For his part, Minister of Electricity Ziyad Ali Fadel said during the joint conference: "Our intention with the Ministry of Oil is to work as a unified team according to the Prime Minister's directives, each according to his obligations."

    Fadel added, "Effective steps have been secured to operate and sustain the momentum of the Maysan gas and investment stations."

    He pointed out that "there are positive stages and qualitative steps, which are the operation of combined cycle stations in Maysan and others, as a strategic step to reduce operating expenses, save energy and reduce dependence on the supplied fuel."

    "The ministry seeks to contribute to increasing the governorates' shares of energy," he stressed.

    The Ministry of Oil set Earlier today,  the objectives of the visit of its Minister, Hayan Abdel-Ghani, accompanied by the Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, to the Halfaya field in Maysan, while indicating the near completion of two power stations with gas invested from the field.

    The ministry's spokesman, Assem Jihad, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the most important goals of the visit of the Ministers of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, and Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, is the field follow-up of the associated gas investment projects in the Halfaya field in Maysan," noting that "this field is one of the largest fields oil in the province."

    He added, "There is a plan to invest gas associated with oil operations with a capacity of 300 million standard cubic feet," noting that "the Maysan Oil Company, in cooperation with Petrojana, has achieved important steps to reach this goal."

    He stated, "The visit aims to follow up the projects of supplying the two electric power stations in the governorate, where the Maysan Oil Company will supply the two stations with quantities of gas amounting to 160 cubic meters per day, and this achieves the objectives of the Ministry of Electricity in this regard."

    He added, "The other goal of the visit is to follow up the oil production in this field, which now amounts to 350,000 barrels per day," explaining that "the ministry is seeking to raise production to 400,000 barrels per day of crude oil."

    He stressed that "the Halfaya field development project is one of the successful projects that have achieved its objectives."
