A senior source within the Iraqi delegation that met with the new Syrian administration revealed the meeting details and the files that were discussed in Damascus.
The source told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The discussions held by the Iraqi delegation headed by the head of the intelligence service, Hamid al-Shatri, were security-related and focused on related files.".
He added, "The Iraqi delegation discussed with the new Syrian administration border protection and cooperation in preventing the return of ISIS terrorist gangs' activity, as well as protecting prisons that house ISIS gangs inside Syrian territory.
" He continued, "The Iraqi delegation also presented Iraq's visions and requests regarding respecting minorities and holy shrines," indicating that "Iraq is an influential country in the region and current files must be dealt with in a state-like manner.".
He stressed that "the new Syrian administration expressed its support for Iraq's demands and concerns regarding the files that were discussed.".
Earlier today, Thursday, government spokesman Bassem al-Awadi confirmed that "an Iraqi delegation headed by the head of the intelligence service, Hamid al-Shatri, met with the new Syrian administration in Damascus, and discussed developments on the Syrian scene and the requirements for security and stability on the common border between the two countries."
