Xi Jinping: We will announce the establishment of a strategic partnership with Syria

    Chinese President Xi Jinping confirmed during a meeting with his Syrian counterpart, Bashar al-Assad, in the city of Khanju, today, Friday, that the two countries are about to announce the establishment of strategic partnership relations between them.

    The Chinese President said during the meeting: “Today we will jointly announce the establishment of a strategic partnership, which will become an important milestone in the history of relations between the two countries.”.

    He pointed out, "Syria was one of the first countries to establish relations with the new China, and it was also one of the countries that proposed a draft resolution to restore China's seat in the United Nations.".

    Xi stressed, "Beijing's readiness to develop cooperation with Damascus," and said: "In light of the international situation full of instability and uncertainty, China expresses its readiness to continue cooperation with Syria, firmly support each other, develop friendly cooperation and jointly defend international justice.".

    For his part, Al-Assad said: “Damascus looks forward with hope to China’s constructive role in the international arena and rejects all attempts to weaken this role through interference in China’s internal affairs or attempts to create tension in the South China Sea or in Southeast Asia.”.

    The Syrian President described his visit to China as “important in terms of its timing and circumstances, as a multipolar world is being formed today that will restore balance and stability to the world,” hoping that it will establish “wide-ranging and long-term strategic cooperation in various fields between the two countries.”.

    Al-Assad expressed his "thanks to China for standing by the Syrian people in their cause, suffering and plight.".

    Syrian President Bashar al-Assad arrived in China yesterday, Thursday, in his first official visit to the country in nearly two decades.
