Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani, met with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Ebrahim Raisi, in New York, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
“The Prime Minister emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral ties in various areas for the benefit of both nations. They highlighted the urgency of ensuring the success of joint projects, such as the recent railway connection for passenger transport between our countries,” stated the Media Office of The Prime Minster in a statement, received by The Iraqi News Agency-INA.
“PM Al-Sudani firmly stated that Iraq will never permit its territory to be used for launching attacks on neighboring nations. Iraq is equally determined to safeguard its security and sovereignty. He also emphasized the importance of resolving all issues with neighboring countries through dialogue to achieve lasting solutions to regional crises,” The statement added.
On his part, President Raisi expressed the Islamic Republic of Iran's deep appreciation and conveyed the Iranian people's gratitude to Iraq and its government for their warm hospitality extended to pilgrims visiting the holy shrines during the commemoration of Arbaeen of Imam Hussein and his companions (peace be upon them). He emphasized the significance and excellence of the bilateral relations between the two nations. He underscored the need for both countries' officials to work towards strengthening and enhancing economic and trade ties through joint initiatives. President Raisi commended the Iraqi government's efforts in addressing issues in the regions bordering northern Iraq.
