Transportation Ministry reveals a proposal to build a gas pipeline towards European market

    Ministry of Transportation revealed on Wednesday, a proposal to establish a new project within the Development Road, while noting that it received the preliminary designs for the first section of the project, confirming that the road will include non-European countries such as Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
     
    The Director General of the Ministry's Railways, Younis Al-Kaabi, told the Iraqi News Agency –INA that "There is international interest in the Development Road project, which is shown by the level of attendance during the announcement of the project," noting that "the project will create an economic difference not only in Iraq but in the countries of the region and will be part of the global economic corridors."
     
    He added that "The project is a wide development and will accommodate all investment opportunities in Iraq," noting that "this corridor will connect the Gulf ports with Europe by land; Turkey is the gateway to the project towards the European Union as well as towards Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, which contain railways linked with Turkey."
     
    He stressed that "this road will also bring goods from the European Union to the Gulf via transit, and it will also transport travelers to Turkey, Europe and the rest of the countries," pointing out that "there is a proposal to extend a gas pipeline passing through Iraq to export Iraqi gas to the European market."
     
    He pointed out that "most countries submitted offers from major international companies for investment, work and participation, in addition to advisory issues and designs," explaining that "the designer company is Italian and is one of the largest companies designed for transport systems in Europe."
     
    "We have received the preliminary designs for the first section of the road from the port of Faw to Basra within 150 km, and we urge the Italian company to complete soil investigations and complete the final designs to be ready," he said, pointing out that "the completion of any section of the road and the completion of soil investigations will be announced as an international tender, and there will be competition between major international companies."
     
    Regarding the railway project between the provinces, Al-Kaabi pointed out that "there is a will to establish mass transport lines internally and between the provinces, the latest of which is the railway link between the holy provinces of Karbala and Najaf to serve travelers and visitors," pointing out that "the project is at its beginning and implementation will be fast."
     
    "This week, we will hold an initial meeting to discuss the mechanism for implementing the project," he said.
