Prime Minister Muhammed S. Al-Sudani, met on Tuesday, with the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, New York.
During the meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries were reviewed, and avenues for strengthening cooperation in economic, security, health, agriculture, and climate-related areas were explored, as well as plans to reactivate the Iraqi-Bulgarian Joint Committee to enhance bilateral relations further, according to a statement by the Media Office of the Prime Minister, received the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
PM Al-Sudani highlighted the longstanding history of Iraqi-Bulgarian relations and Bulgaria's supportive role in Iraq, particularly within the NATO mission by providing training and bolstering the combat capabilities of Iraqi forces in their fight against terrorism.
He conveyed Iraq's intention to strengthen its relations with Bulgaria and explore the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding for political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two friendly nations.
Al-Sudani also encouraged Bulgarian companies to explore investment opportunities in Iraq, foster economic partnerships, and enhance cooperation across various sectors.
In turn, President Radev expressed "Bulgaria's keen interest in participating in the Development Road Project, emphasizing the desire of Bulgarian industries and economic sectors to contribute and expand economic partnerships within this significant and promising project."
