Salah al-Din confirms work to rehabilitate archaeological sites within the Samarra project

    Salah al-Din Governorate confirmed, today, Thursday, work to rehabilitate archaeological sites within the Samarra Project, the capital of Iraq for Islamic civilization.

    Assistant Governor of Salah al-Din, Riyad Tais al-Samarrai, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The archaeological tourist sites in Salah al-Din Governorate are large, including the city of Samarra, which is the largest site included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Its location includes the Al-Malwiya Mosque and Minaret, the Palace of the Abbasid Caliphate, Al-Mutawakkil’s Palaces, and the Palace of Salah al-Din.” Al-Ashiq, and these are the largest existing monuments, in addition to many archaeological sites.”.

    He added, "Under the law of Samarra, the capital of Iraq for Islamic civilization, large sums of money have been allocated to rehabilitate these sites. Work is being done to rehabilitate them according to the terms and specifications of the Antiquities Authority in coordination with the World Heritage and Antiquities Organization UNESCO, and under their supervision they will be rehabilitated in order to receive visitors and tourists.".

    He continued, "This work also coincides with the rebuilding of the Samarra Tourist Hotel, as it is known that the city does not have any hotel, whether public or private, due to events or business and existing security precautions. We will work to ensure that the hotel is large and distinct and meets the needs of tourists and visitors, and also There are serious plans with economic, tourism, cultural and economic feasibility to advance the archaeological site of Samarra, and maintenance work is taking place at the archaeological site in the Ashur district in order to attract tourists and visitors in the coming days.”
