In the heart of Erbil city, lies the Bangladeshi Friday Market, which is considered a unique destination to enjoy commercial and cultural diversity, as the market is located near the historic Erbil Citadel, and is characterized by selling Bangladeshi agricultural, food and industrial products.
“The market opens its doors only on Fridays, from six in the morning until five in the evening. The products displayed in the market were brought from Bangladesh, while the vegetables are grown on farms near Erbil using Bangladeshi seeds and methods," said the Iraqi News Agency – INA reporter.
Jahangir Muhsin, a vendor from Bangladesh, told INA that "the market is an additional source of income for us, the Bangladeshi workers, as we work all days of the week in private companies and homes. We take advantage of Friday to sell our products."
In turn, Islam Muhammed, a Bangladeshi spice seller, confirmed that “the sold spices come from their country on a continuous basis, and are characterized by their strong smell, beautiful and varied colors, and cheap prices,” noting that “the official authorities in Erbil Governorate allow Bangladeshi sellers to open the market on Fridays only.”
