The Japanese Meteorological Department confirmed that this year's summer was the hottest in the country since Japan's temperature record began in 1898.
The agency said in a statement, "Japan witnessed between (June and August) the last average temperatures, the highest since the start of recording this data in 1898, as the average summer temperatures were higher by a large difference in the north, east and west of the country."
She added, "Based on observations at 15 different locations, the unusually high temperatures in Japan averaged +1.76°C, far exceeding the 2010 average (+1.08°C), which was the highest on record since records began in 1898." .
And she indicated, "The maximum and minimum temperatures have reached records in many places across the country, as is the case in the city of Itoigawa, where the minimum temperature reached 31.4 degrees Celsius on August 10, which is the highest level in the country." .
And she continued, "Compared to the years when the average summer temperatures were particularly high (2010, 2013, 2018, and 2022), the number of extremely hot days increased significantly as of the end of July, becoming the highest since 2010."
