The governor of Dhi Qar, Muhammad Hadi al-Ghazi, approved on Tuesday, the basic designs of the tourist city of Ur, to be the first integrated religious tourism city in the province."
The governor’s office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The basic design was developed based on the outputs of the Diwani Order Committee No. 38 of 2021 and the problem is headed by the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers and the membership of representatives of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Construction and Housing, advisors to the Prime Minister and the Presidency of the Republic, as well as representatives for Dhi Qar Governorate."
The statement indicated, "The design includes five basic sectors, which are the religious sector, the educational sector, the service sector, the entertainment sector, and the residential sector, which extends in total over an area of 370 dunums."
Al-Ghazi pointed out, "The aim of building the tourist city is to provide services for tourists coming to the ancient city of Ur, which is about two kilometers away its plan was completed after fulfilling all requirements, surveys and studies, to be a new city with a religious tourism character.'
It stated, "The tourist city includes a museum, theaters, restaurants, cultural centers, and a college of archeology and marshes."
