MOI issues a directive regarding domestic violence

    The Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shimmari, stressed that deterrent legal measures should be taken against perpetrators of domestic violence.

    Al-Shammari chaired a meeting to discuss intensifying efforts to combat domestic violence, in the presence of the Undersecretary for Police Affairs, the Director of Family and Child Protection, the Director of the Juvenile Police, the Community Police, the Human Rights Directorate, and the Director of the Relations Department media and the official spokesperson for the ministry, said the ministry in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

    The statement included, "They discussed the procedures undertaken by the competent departments in the Ministry of Interior to protect the honorable Iraqi family and the legal aspects in this field, the importance of coordination with the relevant authorities, as well as the endeavor to legislate the necessary laws in this regard."

    The minister expressed his support for the work of the Family and Child Protection Directorate in addition to the community police to follow up on all appeals and cases that come in the field of family and child protection that requires them to take deterrent legal measures against perpetrators of domestic violence.
