The High Commission for Human Rights in Iraq announced that about 15,000 complaints have been lodged on cases related to domestic violence during the year 2020.
A member of the commission, Ali Al-Bayati, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "there is a draft law to combat domestic violence in Iraq, to hold accountable and accountable for any assault on family members and be a deterrent to it," pointing out that "the law directed institutions to work in order to raise awareness and provide all appropriate means to reduce domestic violence. "
He added that combating domestic violence is achieved through the existence of programs targeting the family by supporting it economically, socially and even psychologically through psychological programs provided by health institutions and even civil society organizations and the media in order to build and protect the family, pointing out that “the latest statistics on family violence In Iraq, the year 2020 was registered, when there were approximately 15,000 complaints related to domestic violence cases, most of them from women and wives, as they are dealt with in accordance with the Iraqi Penal Code.
He stressed, "There are no alternatives to harboring the victim due to the conservative nature of society."
