The Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi, confirmed today, Thursday, that nearly 12,000 Iraqi workers are working in the projects of the Al-Faw Grand Port, while he indicated that work in it is progressing at an escalating pace.

The ministry's media office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The minister visited Basra Governorate to see and follow up work on major and strategic transport projects, and his visit indicated remarkable progress in the completion stages for the projects of the great port of Faw.".

Al-Saadawi confirmed, according to the statement, that "12,000 Iraqis work in the port projects of Fao, stressing that these numbers constitute 80 percent of the workforce in the port projects, while 20 percent are foreign workers."

The statement continued, "The local labor is divided into two parts: the first of them represents the Iraqi labor who works with the Daewoo company, which is implementing the five projects in the large port of Faw with social security, and the other section, which is very limited, and works with subcontractors, and these do not have social security because their work short periods of time and with limited effort.

The statement pointed out that, "Most of the workers in the five projects are under the management of the Korean Daewoo company and enjoy all Iraqi social security rights, in accordance with the law and government instructions."
