The director of the United Nations Population Fund office in Iraq, Nestor Owomuhangi, said on Wednesday that the population increase in Iraq is increasing rapidly compared to neighboring countries, while pointing out that this increase will be a good and positive phenomenon.

Owomuhangi said during the annual conference held by the Ministry of planning in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund and the Iraqi society for Statistical Sciences in Baghdad on the occasion of World Population Day, and attended by the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "the International Population Conference held in Cairo earlier, we set out to achieve what we believed in for a healthier life with full rights," indicating that "this vision has become a reality for many, as the population increase, which is almost 8 billion people the world is still far from communication and a healthy life".

He added that "Iraq faced part of these crises; that is why we are watching from this presentation and from the documentary, as well as from colleagues in the Ministry of planning, that this vision, which was set thirty years ago, did not reach the majority of the Iraqi population, and as we progress we will need to restructure our strategies and policies to reach these needs for population increase, and also review the population policy, and this is a step on the right path".

He pointed to" the need to recognize that the main investment of the population is the transition to a healthy life, "noting “the importance of everyone's participation for collective progress, as there must be the possibility of harvesting these developments to reach the highest possible level, as well as to support all people despite their backgrounds so that everyone can participate and seek development and progress.

He continued that " the proportion of Iraq's population and population density is increasing rapidly compared to neighboring countries of Iraq," pointing out that "this population increase will be a good and positive phenomenon, but it must be with an increased impact on the environment and the climate impact in general until making sure that the policies that are used by population data are correct and up-to-date to know the proportion of the population and their impact on the environment.

He explained that “the government has become this priority for the calculation of population and population density and so it can be reached to know and use the experiences of countries and also the capabilities to know that its population calculation is correct and complies with international standards".
