Al-Sahhaf: Iraq renews its request to hold an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation

    Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahhaf confirmed today, Thursday, that Iraq renewed its request to hold an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to study repeated insults to the Holy Quran.

    Al-Sahaf said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein directed an approach to the permanent representative of Iraq in Jeddah to renew Iraq's request to hold an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to study the recurrence of insulting the Holy Quran.".

    He added, "The minister directed to send a memorandum to the Arab League on the developments of the incident of insulting the Holy Qur'an," noting that "the governmental measures regarding the incident of burning the Holy Qur'an come within the framework of respect for the heavenly religions.".

    He pointed out, "Diplomatic procedures began urgently to withdraw our embassy from Stockholm and activate the departure of the Swedish ambassador from Baghdad," pointing out, "The ministry's measures were urgent to confront the phenomenon of Islamophobia."
