Deputy Speaker of Parliament Muhsin Al-Mandalawi demanded on Monday, that the issue of electricity to stay in the country and removed from international and regional political conflicts. He called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take urgent action with the US side and settle the financial dues resulting from the import of Iranian gas.

"Iraq is an independent country since 1932 and does not allow the United States of America or any other country, under any circumstances or time, to impose its control over its sovereignty and economy or attempt to humiliate its people who have suffered the scourge of wars by creating the current electricity crisis. This is one of the reflections of interference in the country's affairs and an attempt to keep it under the arrogance of what is known as the global system and the forces controlling it," said Al-Mandalawi in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency – INA,  stressing "the need to avoid using such sensitive issues that harm the interests of people and their stability in the future."

Al-Mandalawi called for "keeping away the issue of electricity in the country from international and regional political conflicts," calling on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee to "take urgent action with all available diplomatic means with the US side, in a way that would resolve the financial dues resulting from the import of gas from the Islamic Republic of Iran and end the suffering of the Iraqi citizen in light of the high temperatures and the almost complete power outage,”
