Minister of Justice announces the approval of the Juvenile Welfare Bill

    Minister of Justice Khalid Shawani announced today, Monday, the approval of the Juvenile Welfare Bill.
     
     
    A statement by the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated, that "Minister of Justice Khalid Shawani received, in his official office today, the Director of the UNICEF office in Iraq, Mrs. Shima San Gupta, and her accompanying delegation."
    The minister confirmed, according to the statement, that "the Ministry of Justice approved the draft law on juvenile care No. (76) of 1983 and referred it to the State Council for the purpose of reviewing it and sending it to the Council of Ministers."
    Shawani added, "The ministry made strenuous efforts to prepare a draft law in accordance with the constitution and in line with Iraq's obligations to international covenants and treaties that pertain to juveniles and children's rights in accordance with human rights standards."
    Shawani extended his thanks and appreciation to UNICEF for cooperation in implementing joint programs between the two parties, especially with regard to rehabilitating juveniles and contributing to their reintegration into society.
    For her part, the director of the UNICEF office in Iraq expressed the organization's commitment to cooperate with the Ministry of Justice by developing a future work plan and vision to develop its projects with the Ministry of Justice.
