The Minister of Justice, Khalid Shawani, discussed the conclusion of memorandums of understanding for the exchange of convicts and the organization of the legal and judicial relationship between the two countries.
A statement by the Ministry of Justice, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "in response to a previous invitation from his Egyptian counterpart, Minister of Justice Khaled Shawani visited the Egyptian Ministry of Justice and met with Counselor Omar Marwan."
The minister stressed the depth and development of the relationship between the two brotherly countries in various fields, especially in the legal and judicial fields, and its organization through agreements and memorandums of understanding in the fields of training, exchange of experiences and transfer of convicts between the two countries.
Shawani appreciated the support of the Republic of Egypt in hosting the thirty-ninth session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice in Baghdad.
According to the statement, "The two sides discussed the conditions of inmates between the two countries and concluded memorandums of understanding for the purpose of transferring them to complete their sentences, each inside his country, according to the laws and regulations that preserve the security and sovereignty of the two countries, as well as exchanging capability, experiences and visits between officials of the two ministries for the purpose of benefiting from it."
"The meeting also witnessed a discussion of the file of Iraqi prisoners in Egypt and a study of the possibility of exchanging convicts, as well as the files of foreign lawsuits before the Egyptian arbitration bodies."
For his part, the Egyptian Minister of Justice expressed his happiness for this visit and Egypt's support for the Republic of Iraq in hosting the next session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice, stressing that Iraq plays an important role within the Arab League.
