Waterspouts fell this afternoon on the Spanish city of Zaragoza (north) causing an impressive flood, according to the local press.
According to the daily El Pais, up to 54.2 liters of water per square meter fell in some parts of the city. Images posted on social media showed vehicles swept away by a huge flood and residents taking refuge on the roof of their car.

According to the Spanish daily, firefighters and teams of divers intervened to help several people in difficulty on the edge of the city. Despite the power of the flood, no injuries are to be deplored.

Rescuers used ropes, ladders and even an all-terrain truck to help residents trapped in their cars or having taken refuge in trees.
In downtown Zaragoza, several traffic lights broke down and many bus lines had to be diverted. Train traffic between the Aragonese city and Barcelona has also been cut.
“The downpour that hit Zaragoza affected transport and many parts of the city. City services, firefighters and police are already working to return to normality as soon as possible. I ask you for patience and a lot of caution at this time,” the mayor of Zaragoza wrote in a tweet.
