"pirates", believed to be immigrants, tried today, Friday, to hijack a Turkish ship that was on its way to France off the coast of Naples, which necessitated the intervention of Italian special forces.
In this regard, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto explained to the press, saying: "There is an operation underway on board a ship that was boarded by pirates... who used weapons such as daggers" to threaten the crew.
While the situation remained ambiguous this evening, "Agence France Presse" quoted a government source as saying that the Italian special forces had regained control of the ship.
According to the Italian media, the ship "Galata Seaways" is flying the flag of Turkey. It sailed from Topcular in Turkey on the seventh of June, heading to Sete in southern France, to arrive on Saturday, with a crew of 22 people.
Off Naples, an unknown number of unknown men threatened the crew and detained them in the cockpit. As a result, "the ship clearly deviated from its course," according to the Italian news agency ANSA.
