European Union announced on Monday, the existence of international support to support medium and small projects to revitalize the private sector and develop the Iraqi economy, while the German embassy confirmed that the Iraqi government is committed to economic diversification and support for the labor market.
The Ambassador of the European Union Mission to Iraq, Ville Varjola said in a speech during a conference held by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and attended by the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Small and medium projects in Iraq are important and necessary projects," noting that "there are many Countries including Italy, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Sweden support these projects.
He added, "Projects in Iraq cannot exist without support, so there are practices by the government to facilitate projects and develop the Iraqi economy."
He stressed, "The Sudanese government welcomed initiatives to support projects, and therefore there are efforts to support medium and small projects at the international level," noting that "the decisions that are taken aim at facilitating investments."
For her part, Chargé d'Affaires of the German Embassy, Margarete Jacob, said in a speech to her: "The German project aims to develop economic and developed companies in Iraq, for the sake of development, which prompted us to establish many projects in countries of the world, including Iraq."
She explained, "The Iraqi economy faced many crises due to the terrorist ISIS' takeover of many regions, as well as the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which caused an economic setback at the global level," stressing "the need to diversify the economy and its sources, and move away from dependence on oil only."
She pointed out, "German support came to develop the private sector in Iraq by supporting projects that activate and develop the economic system," stressing, "We focus on economic diversification, financial projects, medium companies, and developing the Iraqi private sector."
She stressed, "The Iraqi government is committed to economic diversification and supporting the labor market, through economic projects, in order to develop small companies."
Jacob indicated, "The international community and international organizations are working to help the Iraqi government and develop small and medium enterprises in Iraq," adding, "Working in this role is in cooperation with Iraqi partners to develop the Iraqi economy."
