The criminal courts of Rusafa, Maysan, and Najaf issued different verdicts against drug dealers.
The Supreme Judicial Council said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the Rusafa Criminal Court issued death sentences against eight criminals, including two with foreign nationalities, who were seized in possession of (34) kilograms of narcotic opium, while (466) were seized against two of them A handful of narcotic substances after they were imported from foreign countries and circulated inside Iraq.
The statement added, "These provisions come in accordance with Article 27 / First of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017."
It continued, "Maysan Criminal Court issued two sentences against two criminals with life imprisonment, each of them for carrying out drug trade after they were caught in possession of (2) kilograms of narcotic substances," noting that "these two judgments come in accordance with the provisions of Article 28 / first of the Narcotic Drugs and Substances Law Mindset No. 50 of 2017.”
The statement pointed out that "the Najaf Criminal Court issued a life imprisonment sentence against a criminal caught in possession of (670) grams of narcotic crystal, indicating that "the ruling against him comes in accordance with the provisions of Article 28 / First of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017."
