Finance minister discusses reforming the tax system and maximizing non-oil revenues

    Finance Minister Taif Sami discussed on Sunday reforming the tax system and maximizing non-oil revenues.

    A statement from the ministry received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) said that "Minister of Finance Taif Sami chaired today an expanded meeting to follow up on the paragraphs of the implementation of the ministerial program submitted by the government program team in the General Secretariat of the Cabinet, in the presence of the general managers of the Rafidain, Rashid, Agricultural, Industrial and Real Estate Banks, Customs and Tax Authoritys and Directors of the Legal, Accounting and Budget Department in the Ministry."

    The statement added that "the meeting discussed the report on the implementation of the government program prepared according to the priorities of the ministerial curriculum related to Chapter II 2023, including restructuring the general budget, managing public money, reducing consumer spending in favor of sustainable development projects and shifting towards balancing programs and performance, in addition to adopting the vision of limiting external borrowing to investment projects."

    It added that "the priorities of reforming the tax and customs system, controlling border crossings and maximizing the state's non-oil revenues were discussed , as well as following up on the plans to reform the banking sector in a way that ensures raising its contribution to the total economic activity," pointing out that "submitting the detailed report on the completion rates of departments and bodies for its projects according to the ministerial curriculum, determining cases of delay in the implementation of programs in accordance with Vision (2023-2025), and stressing the overcoming all obstacles to the completion of reform projects, and other plans consistent with the standards of promoting the national economy."
