The governor of Basra, Asaad Al-Eidani, presented a painting representing the marshes of Iraq to His Holiness Pope Francis.
Al-Eidani said, in a special statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "We visited His Holiness Pope Francis and attended Mass in full, as I was keen to present a painting representing the marshes of Iraq to His Holiness the Pope."
“The painting symbolizes the dwellings of our people in the marshes, and explained to His Holiness the Pope that this is the first civilization that happened on earth and was known to humanity,” he added.
Basra Governor Asaad Al-Eidani arrived with an official delegation from the Christian community to Rome to discuss the situation of the Christian community.
