President Rashid Receives the SRSG and head of UNAMI

    President of the Republic, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, assured on Sunday,  the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert of the need to support the government in implementing its program.

    The media office of the Presidency of the Republic said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The President of the Republic, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, received at the Baghdad Palace, ,  the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert," noting that the President of the Republic listened to an extensive explanation. Presented by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations on her recent briefing on the general situation in Iraq, which she presented to the UN Security Council."

    Plasschaert affirmed, according to the statement, "the support of the United Nations for everything that would consolidate security and economic stability in Iraq, ensure the safety of its citizens and provide their service and humanitarian needs," expressing her "ecstasy with the development and consolidation of the security situation in the capital, Baghdad, and other cities, which she emphasized in her briefing."

    The President of the Republic spoke, according to the statement, about "developments in the general situation in the country," noting that "the efforts made by the government to address many files are related to improving the conditions of citizens and their living and service conditions."

    It pointed to "the need to support the government in implementing its program in response to the aspirations of the Iraqi people for a free and dignified life."

      It explained, "Working to establish a higher council for water in order to preserve water security related to climate and understandings with neighboring countries, and to obtain a fair and necessary amount of water."
    The statement concluded, "The president discussed with Plasschaert the role of the United Nations Mission in Iraq and the importance of work and coordination to overcome obstacles facing a number of issues, especially the issue of the displaced, combating climate and environmental changes and water scarcity."
