Ministry of Transport set the costs of constructing the railways and land transport lines within the Development Road project and indicated that it will be implemented by international companies and via the latest technologies.
"The Development Road project will be an economic lung for Iraq, and the Prime Minister and Minister of Transport have taken upon themselves the implementation of this project and are following up on its details around the clock," said the Director General of the Iraqi Railways affiliated to the Ministry, Younis Al-Kaabi, to the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
He added, "The project starts from the large port of Faw in Basra and runs towards the north of the country, reaching the Iraqi-Turkish borders, and from there to Turkey and Europe, which gives a great flow in the transportation of goods and passengers alike."
"The project includes the implementation of a railway line extending 1,200 km from Faw to the Fishkhabour area on the border with Turkey, and it will be a double line in which trains will operate with electricity, and in parallel there will be a highway for trucks of the same length," he included.
He pointed out that "the implementation of the project requires high technologies and extends to 2028, as it will be implemented by international companies. The trains will have a speed of 300 km for transporting passengers and 150 km for transporting goods."
