Wasit Criminal Court announced on Sunday that it has sentenced a convicted drug trafficker to life in prison for his involvement in the trade of narcotic substances.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Supreme Judicial Council said, “The convict was apprehended in possession of 1 kilogram and 10 grams of methamphetamine, in addition to 210 narcotic pills.”
The court issued the sentence under Article 28 (First) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017, in accordance with the provisions of Articles 47, 48, and 49 of the Iraqi Penal Code.
