Planning Ministry: Iraq has not conducted a full census since 1987

    The Ministry of Planning confirmed on Thursday, that conducting the general census is a top priority for the government as it is of great importance in shaping the full picture of the country's development realities, noting that Iraq has not conducted a full census since 1987.
     
    A statement by the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, Muhammad Ali Tamim, met with the director general and employees of the General Company for Electronic Systems at the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, to discuss the requirements for conducting the population census."
     
    Tamim stressed that "conducting the general census of population and housing in Iraq is a top priority for the government, because it represents great importance in drawing a full picture of the development reality in the country."
     
    He affirmed, "The keenness of the government and the Ministry of Planning to complete the general population census in accordance with international standards, and in line with development requirements, especially since Iraq has not witnessed a comprehensive population census since 1987."
