Iraqi Media Network launches the official broadcast of Al-Iraqiya Syriac TV

    The head of the Iraqi Media Network, Nabil Jassim, announced on Saturday, the launch of the official broadcast of the Iraqi Syriac channel, in an official ceremony held in Baghdad and attended by official events and representatives of the components.

    "We were keen, with the advent of the Akitu holiday, to launch a new institution to the Iraqi Media Network, which is the Syriac National Channel," said Jassim in his speech during the launch ceremony, which was attended by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.


    He noted that "the network was keen to launch the channel with advanced technical specifications to keep pace with the technological development in the world of media. As this project will be the beginning of launching similar projects for the Kurdish and Turkmen TV channels."

    He referred to the Iraqi drama works, stressing that "drama is the soft power and most of the neighboring countries have large productions," calling on the government and the Parliament to reconsider that drama works needs special funds."

    Jassim also noted that "the Iraqi News Agency - INA in turn achieved great accomplishments and had more than 3 million subscribers."

    In turn, the head of the executive body of the Media and Communications Commission, Ali Al-Moayad, stressed in his speech at the ceremony, "It is an important and a qualitative step that the network has planned in line with the Iraqi state's orientations in showing the inclusive national identity of the Iraqi nation with all its religious, sectarian, ethnic and national diversities."

    He highlighted, "It is very important to launch this national satellite channel, as we are witnessing the coincidence of the atmosphere of the blessed month of Ramadan with the Akitu New Year's Day, among the Sumerian, Babylonian, and Akkadian civilizations, all the way to the Assyrian civilization, which coincides with the first of April every year and celebrated by the Iraqi people from our honorable Christian brothers among them."

    Meanwhile, the director of the office of the head of the Iraqi Media Network, Sabah Alal Zayer, confirmed that the Syriac channel will be an important voice, not only for Christians in Iraq, but for all segments of Iraqi society."

    The Minister of Migration and Displacement, Evan Faiq Jabro, said, in her interview with INA, that "Akitu feast is one of the important occasions celebrated by the Christian component and has a historical and cultural character at the same time," pointing out that "Iraq is one of the oldest civilizations, as it celebrates the Babylonian year and all sects, whether Chaldean, Syriac, or Assyrian, and this plants unification among all religions."

    'We commend the opening of the Syriac channel on this holiday, and we congratulate the Iraqi media network for this important achievement," she included. 

    The Undersecretary General of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in Iraq, Father Younan Al-Farid, confirmed that the opening of the Syriac channel is a great achievement for the Iraqi Media Network.

    "I hope that this channel will provide its services that meet the aspirations of the Syriac-speaking Iraqis," Al-Farid said.

    In turn, Kafan Qattan, a member of the Journalists Syndicate Council, congratulated the "opening of the Al-Sariya channel," wishing "success for this channel and its employees."

     "Al-Sariya TV channel is an important addition to the Iraqi media network," he stressed.
