The Ministry of Transportation clarified Sunday the details of the Development Road project, and while referring to the adoption of the European system on this road, it announced the approval of the proposed routes.

The media office of the Ministry of Transportation said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "after obtaining approval on the proposed route of the development road in both parts (land expressway) and (highway line) for passengers and goods from the port of Grand Faw Port to Turkey, the Ministry of Transportation is studying the preparation of designs for the road with the aim of completing it."

The office added that "the road starts from the Grand Faw Port to Turkey, where it is connected to the European railway."

"The roads will be monitored, as well as special rest areas for passengers and others for loading and unloading," it said.

He pointed out that "the transport system that will be used in the project is the European system with the aim of continuing the movement of international trains without stopping, taking into account the issue of pilgrimages."

He continued: "As for the highway, it will be two-way  with a length of 1190 km, starting from the Grand Faw Port and passing through desert areas because it is intended for trucks and there is no need to enter the cities."

It’s mentioned that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said last Tuesday that the 'Development Road' project between Iraq and Turkey will link East and West.

The Prime Minister said in a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Development Road project is not only for Iraq and Turkey, but for the region and the world, which is the global path for the transport of goods and energy and connects the East with the West," pointing out, "This path will transport goods and energy."

He stressed that "this project was the subject of continuous discussion between Iraq and Turkey at various levels, and today we reached this announcement with President Erdogan," calling on the brothers in the countries of the region to "hold a meeting soon in Baghdad to discuss the stages of this vital project in detail."
