7 years of jail for the head and officials in Red Crescent, says Integrity Commission

    INA - BAGHDAD 

    The Federal Integrity Commission announced on Monday, the issuance of jail sentences in absentia against former officials of the Red Crescent Society, on the grounds that they deliberately caused damage to the funds and interests of the entity in which they work or are connected to it by virtue of their job.

    "Al-Karkh Criminal Court - the third commission, issued a seven-year jail sentence in absentia against each of the president of the Red Crescent Society, the secretary-general and the former accounts manager in the association, for their execution in the year 2017 for purchasing wheels reserved by the traffic directorates, which led to damage to public money," according to a statement by the investigation department of the commission received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

    The statement highlighted, "The evidence obtained in the case, which was represented by the statements of the legal representative of the Red Crescent Society, the administrative investigation and the document of the amount of damage, was sufficient and convincing for the court to convict the accused in accordance with the provisions of Article 340 of the Q.P. and the evidence of the subscription articles 47, 48 and 49 thereof," noting that "the decision was issued by agreement, based on the provisions of Articles 149 and 182/a fundamentalism."

    "The court issued an arrest warrant against the convicts in accordance with the aforementioned article, and notified the concerned authorities of its implementation, in addition to supporting the attachment of the movable and immovable funds of the convicts," included the statement.
