The Minister of Higher Education Naeem Al-Aboudi announced a study to resume scholarship programs.
The Ministry of Education said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Naeem Al-Aboudi received the Australian Ambassador to Iraq, Paula Ganley, and they discussed areas of joint scientific and academic cooperation."
During the meeting, Al-Aboudi stressed "the importance of strengthening the areas of cooperation and coordination between Iraqi universities and their Australian counterparts, especially with regard to scientific research in the fields of agriculture, livestock, water and specializations that are directly related to the goals of sustainable development."
The Minister of Education called for "development of joint academic programs between the two countries," pointing to "the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research's approach to studying the resumption of scholarship programs in conjunction with the launch of the (Study in Iraq) project and initiative."
He stressed "the importance of benefiting from global scientific expertise in higher education institutions, exchanging scientific visits, scholarships, fellowships, and joint supervision," pointing at the same time to "the ministry's readiness to receive requests to establish branches of international universities in Iraq."
For her part, the Australian ambassador praised "the positive indicators achieved and the decisions taken during the current stage of the ministry's life and moving towards development and modernization at the level of the student and professor environment and curricula," noting "the readiness of her country's universities to bilateral cooperation with Iraqi universities in terms of twinning programmes, memorandums of understanding and student exchange." .
