EU Delegation: We support job creation for Iraqis, especially young people

    Delegation of European Union to Iraq affirmed on Wednesday, its support for the Iraqi government's efforts to provide job opportunities, especially for young people.

    Head of Cooperation for  Delegation of the European Union to Iraq, Barbara Egger , said in her speech during the launching ceremony of the Muhann platform, which was attended by the correspondent of the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "We are meeting today to launch this interactive platform, which represents an important achievement for all Iraqis and an important milestone in our cooperation with Iraq with regard to the European Union, as well as Europe and all members of the Union in particular."

    She added, "The central goal of our cooperation with Iraq is to create decent job opportunities for all Iraqis, especially young people, and the quality of work remains one of the main things."

    She pointed out that "in Iraq there are great and multiple challenges, and the lack of job opportunities is one of the most dangerous risks to social stability for young people, the lack of work for some of them is a major driver of irregular migration to the European Union."

    Egger confirmed that "the rate of people compared to employment according to the labor market surveys conducted by the Central Statistical Organization shows that the Iraqi economy provides jobs by 33% for people who want to work, which is a very small percentage compared to neighboring countries, as the percentage is approximately 60% for them, and this translates the average The high level of Iraqi youth unemployment, which constitutes 36%."

    she added, "I would like to express our concern as well for the high unemployment rate among Iraqi women, which represents 62%,we realize that the ongoing economic challenges in previous years have exacerbated the problem and also had a negative role in structuring the problems of the Iraqi economy and oil."
