The President of the Republic, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, confirmed on Sunday, that Iraq is one of the countries most affected by water scarcity and drought, while pointing out the importance of the New York Water Conference adopting radical solutions to the water file and climate change.
And the Presidency of the Republic said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The President of the Republic, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, received, at the Baghdad Palace, U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski's."
The President of the Republic stressed, according to the statement, "the depth of the relations that bind the two countries," noting "the importance of strengthening cooperation, coordination and consultation on issues of common concern."
The statement pointed out, "The importance of the New York Water Conference adopting radical solutions to the water file and climate change, as Iraq is one of the countries most affected by water scarcity and drought."
The statement stated that "the stability witnessed by the Iraqi cities would contribute to encouraging investments and improving the living and service reality for the Iraqis." He also touched on the file of the displaced, referring to "the tragic situation experienced by the displaced families."
It called on international organizations to "exercise more efforts to secure the return of the displaced and provide them with a suitable environment."
It stressed, "The Iraqi government pays attention to consolidating security and stability, curbing corruption and rehabilitating the infrastructure in a way that provides a decent life for citizens, praising" the efforts of the United States to support Iraq in its war against terrorism and extremism."
In turn, the US ambassador renewed her country's support for Iraq's efforts to enhance its security and sovereignty, appreciating "the keenness of His Excellency the President of the Republic to strengthen relations between the two countries and ways to develop them in a way that serves the interests of the two peoples."
Ambassador Romanowski emphasized "the importance of Iraq's participation in the water conference to be held in New York, due to the scarcity of water it is witnessing and severe climatic changes," expressing "hope that the decisions of the conference will contribute to serious solutions to the problem of water scarcity in Iraq."
