Al-Halbousi: Parliament supports the government efforts to enhance cooperation with Iran

    INA - BAGHDAD 

    Parliament Speaker Muhammed Al-Halbousi affirmed today, Wednesday, that the parliament supports the government's efforts regarding the openness of Iraq in its relations with neighboring countries and surroundings.

    Al-Halbousi received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hussein Amir Abdullahian, and his accompanying delegation. They discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and cooperation in various fields, as well as a number of regional and international issues of common interest, according to the media office of the Speaker of Parliament statement received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

    During the meeting, Al-Halbousi indicated "Iraq's openness in its relations with neighbors, regional and international surroundings," stressing "the importance of strengthening means of cooperation between the two countries, and that the Parliament supports the government's efforts in this regard."

    The Iranian minister conveyed the greetings of the Speaker of the Shura Council, Muhammed Baqir Qalibaf, to Al-Halbousi, extending his congratulations "for the formation of the government and the re-election of Al-Halbousi as Speaker of Parliament."

    In turn, Abdullahian pointed to "the depth of relations and partnerships between the two neighboring countries, and the affirmation of his country's support for Iraq as well as everything that contributes to achieving its development and stability," expressing his country's aspiration to "hold a new round of talks for the joint supreme committee between the two countries."
