The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, today, Friday, approved the entry of a Chinese "airship" into US airspace.

The Foreign Ministry stated, "China will continue to communicate with the United States in order to deal in a responsible manner with the unexpected situation," stressing that "the balloon is used for civilian purposes.".

The ministry indicated, "The balloon is used to monitor weather conditions and other scientific studies.".

The Pentagon had announced that Washington had monitored the movements of a Chinese balloon flying at a high altitude over American territory and sensitive military sites, saying that it did not pose any direct threat.

"The United States and Canada Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is monitoring the balloon's trajectory," said Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder.

"The balloon currently flies much higher than commercial air traffic, and does not pose a military or physical threat to those on the ground," he added in a statement.
