PM Muhammed Shiaa Al-Sudani affirmed on Monday, that the Faw port project will result in a quantum leap in the Iraqi economy.
Al-Sudani conducted an inspection visit to the Faw Grand Port project in Basra Governorate, accompanied by the Minister of Transport, the Governor of Basra, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning and the Director General of Iraqi Ports,” according to the media office of the Prime Minister statement received by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.
The Prime Minister was briefed on the workplaces, following up on the progress of implementation, meeting the engineers residing in the project, and listening to a general briefing on the levels of achievement in the technical and constructional aspects regarding what the supervising engineers provided at the site.
"The project is important from a strategic point of view for Iraq and the region. This visit confirms the status of the port and its completion at the top of the government program's priorities," Al-Sudani stressed.
He highlighted the government's work of “putting all the capabilities in order to complete the project within the planned time, and according to the specifications set by the consulting authority,” explaining that "the Faw port project will result in a quantum leap in Iraq's economy, so the government is keen to overcome all obstacles. All parties, including the Ministry of Transport and the governorate, are working diligently to make it a success.”
The Prime Minister referred to the complementary projects, the foremost of which is the dry canal project, pointing out that "it will achieve the economic benefit and the feasibility study envisaged by the Faw Grand Port project."
