Minister of Justice: Since its formation, the government fought corruption through direct measures

    Minister of Justice Khaled Shwani affirmed Thursday that the government has worked, since its formation, to combat corruption with direct measures, while noting that Iraq is actively contributing to drafting laws related to human rights.


     Shwani said, in a conference held on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, attended by the reporter of the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, as well as on the occasion of the periodic meeting of the institutional structures concerned with human rights of units and people in Iraq, which expresses the sincerity of vision and intentions to build  a democratic state that protects human rights, principles and concepts.


     He added, "The importance of plans and strategies in directing government efforts and other institutions towards the effective implementation of state policy in the medium and long term in this field, so the National Human Rights Plan 2021-2025 came to set the framework for action and distribute roles for all institutions, with the participation of civil society, to implement the recommendations and the conclusions of the Comprehensive International Review Mechanism in its 2019 round.

     He continued, "The Ministry of Justice, as the institutional body concerned with following up the implementation of the national plan and the implementation of Iraq's international obligations, we find that Iraq's active presence in international forums and restoring Iraq's international status stems mainly from the status of human rights internally, and the existence of legislative, institutional and political mechanisms to protect and enhance human respect.


     He explained, "The Department of Human Rights was created, and it is a partner in work and cooperation, which moved rapidly towards taking its place in cooperation with the Department of Human Rights in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It also worked to establish mechanisms for cooperation between all institutional structures concerned with human rights, to adjust the rhythm of work according to set goals accurately, and within an appropriate timetable," pointing to "the importance of respecting the principles and concepts of human rights, especially for the Iraqi state and its people who suffered a lot at the time of the dictatorial regimes that ruled Iraq and the flagrant violations they were subjected to to the concepts of human rights.

    He indicated that "the advancement of countries and the extent of their progress and development today is measured by the extent of the international community's commitment to the concepts of human rights and the extent to which their citizens enjoy these rights, so the Ministry of Justice will spare no effort to protect all concepts and principles established for the Iraqi people," explaining that "his ministry will support all efforts, whether individual or collectively or organizationally by international organizations, civil society organizations, or local organizations in order to improve the reality of human rights.
