INA – BAGHDAD Iraqi Speaker of the Parliament Mohammed al-Halbusi met the UNFPA Representative to Iraq, Dr Oluremi Sogunro on Monday. During the meeting, both sides have discussed the survivors of the violence against women cases and to provide them better living chances in cooperation with the Ministry of Labours and Social Affairs. The two have agreed to provide those survivors with legal rights and to hold a consultative workshop to case study this regard and to be during the 16 days of the counter-violence campaign. “Women are so important and they are protected by the law and religion,” said al-Halbusi during the meeting. He also pointed out the cases of targeting a specific type of people and that requires activating strict laws. Al-Halbusi also asserted the importance of amending the law of the Labours and Social Affairs and to engage the judiciary to guarantee the official mechanism of maintaining battered women rights in Iraq. @Shahad J Hassan
