FM: The upcoming Baghdad conference will be a platform for exchanging views on the region's crises

    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein confirmed today, Thursday, that the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, in its second edition, to be held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, will be a platform for exchanging views on many crises that the countries of the region suffer from, while indicating that the Iraqi government is working on Protecting the rights of all components of the people by encouraging them to remain in their areas.

    The ministry stated, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "Hussein received the head of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the German Foreign Ministry, Tobias Tunkel, today, and the two sides discussed issues related to human rights, especially with regard to the issue of the Yazidis in Iraq and their rights.".

    The minister expressed, according to the statement, “the Iraqi government’s keenness to strengthen the foundations, principles and values of democracy in Iraq,” stressing that “the Iraqi government is working to protect the rights of all components of the Iraqi people, by encouraging them to stay in their regions to preserve the diversity that forms the Iraqi fabric and provide the necessary protection to return them to their areas and provide all the necessary services for that, and take all means to protect the societal diversity in Iraq.

    The ministry stated that "the two sides discussed regional and international developments of concern and Iraq's prominent role in resolving conflicts between the countries of the region through holding bilateral dialogues between the parties to the conflict.".

    The Foreign Minister affirmed, according to the statement, that "the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, in its second edition, to be held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, will be a platform for exchanging views on many crises that the countries of the region suffer from.".

    For his part, Tobias Tunkel said, "The German parliament is about to pass a resolution in January, considering what happened to the Yazidis in Sinjar as a crime of genocide."
