Rashid confirms unity to establish security and stability

President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, confirmed Thursday the importance of unifying ranks for the sake of stability and protecting the foundations of peaceful coexistence among all segments of society, praising the courageous stances of the people of the Christian religion in Iraq.

A statement by the media office of the Presidency of the Republic, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said, "The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received, in a palace in Baghdad, the Chaldean Patriarch in Iraq and the world, His Eminence Cardinal Louis Raphael Sako and his accompanying delegation."

During the meeting, the President of the Republic stressed "the importance of uniting ranks and joining efforts in order to establish security and stability and protect the foundations of peaceful coexistence among all segments of the Iraqi people," noting that "the unity of Iraqis with all their components is the main pillar for consolidating true citizenship that supports civil and societal peace."  

Rashid praised "the brave stances of the people of the Christian religion in Iraq and their sacrifices in confronting the forces of terrorism, and their sincere adherence to their national identity," indicating their historical role and effective contributions in building Iraq and enriching the country's cultural heritage.

For his part, Patriarch Sako congratulated President Rashid on his election, stressing his support for "his efforts to strengthen the bonds of national cohesion among all the people of this country in order to ensure stability and peace."
