The President of the Republic, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, affirmed on Thursday, that the Iraqi security forces, with all their formations, were able to defeat terrorism and continue to pursue its remnants, while the commander of NATO mission in Iraq(NMI), Lieutenant General Giovanni M. Iannucci, expressed keenness to consolidate relations of cooperation with Iraq.
The Presidency of the Republic said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the President of the Republic, Abullatif Jamal Rashid, received today, at Baghdad Palace, the commander of (NMI)Lieutenant General Giovanni M. Iannucci," noting that during the meeting reviewed the tasks carried out by the NATO mission in the country in providing military advice and training to the Iraqi security forces, enhancing their military capabilities, and raising the level of professionalism and efficiency, in a way that contributes to supporting Iraq's efforts in combating terrorism ."
It pointed to "the important cooperation with NATO in the field of strengthening the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces in carrying out this task and the need to expand its training and advisory tasks to include all regions of Iraq."
For his part, Iannucci expressed "the NATO mission's keenness to consolidate relations of cooperation with Iraq in the field of training, consultation, exchange of information and intelligence effort, in a way that enhances the capabilities of the Iraqi armed forces of all kinds."
