The ministry of oil said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani met the Russian ambassador to Baghdad, Elbrus Kotrashev, and the first secretary at the Russian embassy, Ilya Lubov, and a delegation that included the general manager of Gazprom Sergey Karavaev and the deputy director of the branch of Iraq to Lukoil Mid-East Rasan Sidnafi.”
The statement said that during the meeting, they discussed strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries in the oil and energy sector and supporting the work of discreet international companies in Iraq, working to enhance and expand horizons of cooperation with them, in order to achieve common goals."
For his part, Abdul-Ghani indicated to "the contribution of Russian companies to the development of the oil industry in Iraq," accentuating "the necessity of cooperation in implementing plans to sustain and increase production, in addition to the investment of associated gas.
On the other part, the Russian ambassador expressed his country's desire to strengthen frameworks for joint cooperation in the oil and gas industry sectors, while the delegations of the two companies reviewed the progress of work in the oil fields and future development plans.
In this concern the minister confirmed"the need for oil companies to increase the area of social services and the necessary needs provided to citizens, especially for areas close to oil fields."
