Gulf Cooperation Council, Australia and Russia congratulated Friday the election of Abdul Latif Rashid as President of the Republic of Iraq, and assigning Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani to form the government.
The Australian embassy said in a statement seen by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that it "congratulates Abdul Latif Rashid on his election as President of the Republic, and welcomes the assignation of Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani as Prime Minister."
The embassy expressed its "look forward to working closely with the new government."
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Nayef Al-Hajraf, congratulated "the election of Abdul Latif Rashid as president of Iraq and Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani on his assignment to form the new government."
In turn, the Russian ambassador to Iraq, Elbrus Kutrashev, sent a congratulatory cable to the person in charge of forming the government, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, in which he said: "I am pleased to offer you the most beautiful and sincere words of congratulations on the occasion of assigning the President of the Republic to form the government."
Kutrashev added: "I am confident that your activity in this high position will make a significant contribution to deepening bilateral relations between our two friendly countries and advancing them for the benefit of both sides."
He continued, "I wish you, Mr. President, good health, and success in accomplishing your responsible mission, and I also wish the friendly Iraqi people progress and prosperity."
