The Head of the country program at the International Trade Center, Eric Bouchot, confirmed on Thursday, his support, in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture and the FAO, to implement developmental food strategies to grow important crops and develop productive sectors in Iraq.
ITC is a technical cooperation agency affiliated with and affiliated with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the World Trade Organization.
Bouchot said in his speech during the official launch of the strategies of the poultry and tomato sector for sustainable development in Iraq and attended by the correspondent of the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "two days ago we were in Bashiqa district in Mosul, and we met farmers who grow olives and produce olive oil."
He added, "Before 2014, a local institution in Nineveh implemented a project for the production and packaging of oils, but it was destroyed by ISIS terrorist gangs, and we saw the flexibility and determination of these farmers to proceed with their work again."
He added, "We are working with the European Union to support these businesses in small groups and local institutions, to provide food products that can be stored and distributed when the market needs, which is a step to return businesses and invest them in the future."
Bouchot continued, "At the World Trade Center, we also work with many categories of merchants, retail individuals and partners to purchase these local products that provide high quality products, because these projects can grow and generate millions of dollars as well as dispense with imported products, and these strategies must be It is achieved and we start from this step, and this is one of the strategies that aim at achieving trust, and the beneficiaries are business owners and farmers.”
Bouchot noted that "not only the European Union has funded the design of this strategy, but there are other budgets for implementation from the Food and Immigration Program and other international agencies.
