Central Bank of Iraq – CBI announced on Monday, effective and proactive measures to protect the banking sector, combat money laundering and terrorist financing.
"CBI governor Mustafa Ghalib Makheef, received a delegation from the Egmont Group, to discuss Iraq's accession to the group as during the meeting, aspects of bilateral cooperation between CBI and the group were discussed after taking due diligence procedures,” stated CBI in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency – INA.
Makheef noted that "CBI is keen to strengthen relations with international organizations concerned with combating money laundering and terrorist financing."
"CBI attaches great importance to combating all criminal activities and eliminating sources of money laundering and financing terrorism as well as, other financial crimes. We are looking forward to expanding the scope of international cooperation in the field of information exchange," he added.
The Bank has taken effective and proactive measures to protect the banking sector, combat money laundering and terrorist financing, according to Makheef.
"The Egmont Group is a global network that works to enhance communication and interaction between financial intelligence units, named after the venue of its first meeting in Brussels in 1995 June and aims to provide a forum for financial intelligence units around the world to provide support to governments,” he included.
