The head of the Tikrit Massacre Commemoration Committee, Moeen Al-Kadhimi, confirmed today, Saturday, that 500 martyrs among Speicher's victims , their fate still unknown, while calling for turning the site of the massacre into reserve affiliated with the central government.
Suring his speech at the ceremonies to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the Speicher tragedy, which was attended by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Moeen Al-Kadhimi said that "A delegation from Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da'esh/ISIL (UNITAD) is present with us today, in the ceremonies to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the Speicher tragedy," calling on the team to brief the Security Council on this crime and publicizing the Speicher case at the international level. "
He added, "We have already make the world know about this crime in Geneva, but we need to exert more efforts to make the whole world know the brutality of terrorism crimes, including the Speicher case," noting that " arrest warrants were issued against 500 defendants, and the death sentence was carried out against a group of them, which included 40 criminals."
He pointed out that “The remains of 1250 martyrs were received by their families out of 2000 martyrs, and 250 martyrs whose bodies are still in the forensic medicine department under examination, , and the fate of 500 martyrs has not been known so far eight years ago ".
He added that "15 mass graves were found in the presidential palaces, and approximately 1,500 remains of the martyrs were exhumed, and the identities of 1,250 of them were revealed."
Al-Kadhimi counted the number of martyrs from the provinces, by saying that "Dhi Qar province recorded more than 400 martyrs, among the martyrs of Speicher, Diwaniyah 300 martyrs, the capital Baghdad 294 martyrs, Diyala 120 martyrs, Muthanna 119 martyrs, Wasit 110 martyrs, Maysan 25 martyrs, in addition to martyrs from the holy governorates of Karbala, Najaf and Babil.
He called for a real investigation by a team affiliated with the Martyrs Foundation," calling on international organizations to consider this crime as a genocide with racist motives."
He stressed "the necessity of inflicting just retribution on the criminals, searching for the remains of the victims, and urging the Ministry of Defense to take care of Speicher case, since the martyrs were among the ministry's personnel," calling for giving the rights to the families of the victims, as well as granting them plots of land and documenting the names and lives of the martyrs and why they were martyred. "
