The Parliamentary Finance Committee stressed on Saturday, the necessity of legislating a proposed emergency support law for food security and development before the next Thursday, as it is the date of the end of the first legislative term, while confirming that a meeting will be held tomorrow to put the final touches.

"The Finance Committee will meet tomorrow, to finalize the proposal for the emergency support law, and we have an opportunity to vote on it in a session for the Parliament until next Wednesday, as the next Thursday will be the expiration date of the First Legislative term," said a member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Jamal Coujar, to Al-Iraqiya News TV, followed up by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

He noted, "Without legislating this law, the country will enter a real crisis in the issues of food, electricity, development and other urgent matters, as the legislative term cannot be extended because it was extended a month earlier," adding that "the formation of the new government will be delayed due to the political blockage and it cannot wait for a formation to legislate a law. We are now in the fifth month of the year.”

"Adopting the 1/12 principle, via which is not possible to pay the Iranian gas debt, because the payments are not included in last year's budget, to be there by the 1/12 application. Also, food prices are higher by far compared to last year, and what was allocated in 2021 to the Ministry of Commerce is not enough to purchase food supplies at current prices for the whole year," he included.
