Ministry of Transport announced Sunday that two earthquakes struck the Sulaymaniyah Governorate.
A statement by the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "the seismic observatories in the General Authority for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring recorded two earthquakes today, in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate," noting that "the first tremor was recorded at 09:50:00 this morning in local time, its strength reached (4.4) degrees near the Iraqi-Iranian border, 20 km southeast of Kalar district.
The statement added that "the second earthquake was recorded at 09:52:40 this morning also, according to local time, with a magnitude of (4), 22 km north-east of Kalar district of Sulaymaniyah Governorate."
According to the statement, the General Authority for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring called on "citizens to be vigilant, to stay away from rumors and false news, and to abide by the seismic recommendations issued by the authority."
